Who we are
Spruce Wood Ltd operates this website and is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. We are based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
You can reach the person responsible for privacy at our company by email at contact@sprucewoodltd.ca or by phone at (778) 885-6323.
Information we collect
We collect only what we need to answer your enquiry, prepare an estimate, and keep this website working well. We do not buy personal information from data brokers, and we do not sell yours.
- Information you give us — when you use the contact form on our Contact page: the details the form asks for (such as your name, email address and phone number) and anything you write about your project. When you call or email us, we receive your phone number or email address and what you tell us.
- Information collected automatically — when you browse the site: your IP address, browser and device type, approximate location, the pages you view, the site or search that referred you, and the time and length of your visit.
- Advertising measurement — when you arrive from one of our ads or click our phone number, our advertising tags record that event so we can tell which ads are useful.
- Cookies and similar technologies — small files stored by your browser. See the cookies section below.
Why we use it, and your consent
We use the information above to reply to your enquiry, arrange an on-site consultation, prepare estimates and carry out the work you ask us to do; to understand how visitors use the website and improve it; to measure whether our advertising works; to keep the site secure; and to meet our legal and tax record-keeping obligations.
We rely on your consent. When you contact us, you consent to us using your details to respond to you. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us, subject to legal or contractual restrictions; if you do, we may not be able to provide a quote or service you have asked for.
Where a privacy law that requires a legal basis applies to you (for example the UK or EU GDPR), we rely on your consent for analytics and advertising cookies, on the steps needed to enter into a contract when you ask us about our services, on our legitimate interest in running and securing the website, and on our legal obligations for record-keeping.
We do not make decisions about you by automated means alone.
Where your information is processed
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. While it is there, it is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts and authorities. We choose providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to Canadian law, and where information leaves a region with transfer restrictions (such as the UK or the EEA), we rely on our providers' approved safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry details for 24 months from our last contact with you, unless you ask us to delete it sooner. If you become a customer, we keep project and invoice records for as long as the law requires for tax and warranty purposes (generally six years), and then delete them. Analytics data is kept according to the retention setting of our analytics account, after which Google deletes it.
Your rights and choices
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, or ask us to delete it. You can withdraw your consent, or ask us to stop contacting you, at any time.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights — for example to data portability, to object to processing, or to appeal a refused request. We honour these wherever you live.
To make a request, email contact@sprucewoodltd.ca. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity before acting, and we will only ask for what is necessary to do so.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (oipc.bc.ca) or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca), or, outside Canada, to your local privacy regulator.
Children
This website is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.
How we protect it
The site is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and we limit access to enquiry details to the people who need them to reply to you and to manage your project. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — but if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as the law requires.
Links to other sites
Our site links to other websites, including our Facebook, Instagram and Houzz pages and our Google reviews. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and this policy does not apply to them. Read their policies before giving them your information.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will make that clear on this page.
